From decals to gaskets, and from warning labels to packaging and beyond, adhesive-backed components are used in and on a range of products and equipment. MCMILLANCO offers in-house converting and lamination services with our high-speed automated Preco 1220 flat bed die cutting equipment.
What is converting?
The term converting refers to a variety of fully automated operations that cut materials into predetermined shapes. The most common cutting operations are kiss cutting and die cutting and are done with a specialized machine that feeds the material from sheets or rolls and cuts pieces using a die or other cutting tool. Pieces can also be laminated with adhesives and/or an overlay for protection or aesthetic design.
MCMILLANCO uses the versatile, efficient Preco 1220 flat bed die cutting machine for our custom converting services. With it we are able to laminate (up to seven layers), kiss cut or punch, knock out and stack or cut into sheets, and rewind any scrap material with only one or two operators. Finished pieces are then ready for packaging and end use.
Precision converting for critical applications
To provide you with a top quality product, our team manufactures custom dies based on your drawing and produces kiss cut pieces within tight tolerances. Our machine uses optical location technology and high precision registration to identify and cut each piece correctly, whether it’s aligning a cut around a printed area or punching a hole to exact dimensions. This capability reduces scrap due to inaccurate cuts, saves money on materials, and helps you avoid assembly or final use problems downstream.
Production volume can range from 9,000 to 100,000,000 or more pieces per day depending on size and/or configuration. Our team strives for efficiency and success with different materials, such as automated infeed of semi-rigid materials, and tweaking dies for accurate results when working with flexible or stretchy materials. While each type of material has its own properties and “behaves” differently, we’re often able to obtain tolerances up to +/- .002 inch.
